Senior Outreach Ministry

“We are created to be channels of God’s love, vessels for which His grace flows into the world.
When we love one another, we participate in something far greater than ourselves, we become
part of God’s eternal plan, a reflection of His Divine unity.”

The Vision for this Ministry

During COVID, retirement and assisted living homes were closed to all ministries. Sadly, many ministries have not yet returned. Our Senior Outreach Ministry was just beginning when the pandemic hit, and we are now overjoyed to restart this beautiful mission—a witness to the dignity of every human life.

Our vision is to serve these homes with compassion, respect, and an understanding of the unique needs of the elderly. We aim to be recognized by the community as a ministry that relieves loneliness, restores dignity, and renews the residents’ connection to the outside world. At the same time, we recognize that this ministry enriches and transforms the lives of our volunteers.

Through scheduled visits, our volunteers offer individual or group fellowship with residents who need a friend. Visits may include playing games, chatting and listening, reading aloud, sharing worship and prayer, assisting residents in receiving the Sacraments, remembering them on special days, or simply offering kindness and charity.

Though we are a non-denominational ministry, we honor the faith traditions of each resident and volunteer. We work mindfully to make sure everyone is comfortable and respected. Most of all, we are called to offer fellowship—and sometimes that means stepping outside our comfort zones to fully live out our mission.

Visiting Seniors

My name is Alexa Young

Visits do not require a large time commitment. We simply ask for about one hour per week at a time that works for you. Building a relationship requires consistency; it’s not the length of the visit but the quality that matters most.

There are ideal times to visit when facilities are less busy (outside of scheduled meal times). We currently visit residents at Village at the Park in Rogers, and the relationships we are building have been deeply rewarding. However, there are many residents and few volunteers. With your help, we can expand this outreach throughout Northwest Arkansas.

We are currently relying on word of mouth and church bulletin announcements to recruit volunteers.

Qualifications to volunteer

All we ask is a kind heart, a respect for life from conception to natural death, and a willingness to perform works of mercy and compassion for those most in need. If this ministry tugs at your heart, the only thing needed is your yes.

Share your talents

If you have special talents—such as making cards, musical abilities, leading simple crafts, baking, or organizing group service projects—we would love to hear from you!

Example: The Confirmation Class at St. Stephen’s is making a variety of cards for our residents. In the fall, the students will visit the facility to create cards alongside the Seniors. Maybe you would like to join us, provide resources, or create crafts for us to share with residents!

Become a prayer warrior

As Christians, we believe deeply in the power of prayer. Whether you are visiting seniors or supporting from home, we invite you to unite with us in prayer for our mission.

Soon, we will share ways you can get involved through local prayer groups and universal intentions. Some areas for prayer include:

  • For the end of euthanasia and assisted suicide

  • For the end of abortion and for all those who have no voice

  • For healing and grace for the sick and dying

  • For those wounded by the culture of death

  • For all who labor for the sanctity of life
